The game’s sequel, Outlast 2, follows a new pair of journalists (Lynn and Blake Langermann) as they explore an area in the Northern Arizona desert. This mixture of "scavenge and survive" oriented gameplay became a huge hit, with Outlast earning a place as one of the top indie horror games of all time. To avoid running blindly through the darkness, potentially bumping into one of Outlast's monstrous enemies, players are required to spend a little extra time seeking out additional batteries. The only tool at player’s disposal in Outlast is a video camera complete with batteries that slowly run out of juice. In the original title, players followed the misadventures of reporter Miles Upshur, a man determined to expose the secrets hidden deep within Mount Massive Asylum. According to the developers, the sequel is set to ramp up the scares thanks to a more encompassing budget and greater focus on psychological horror.
